Jhalander: Around 3 a.m. late at night near the Pathankot bypass, teams of the World Hindu Council and the Cow Protection Squad allegedly seized two Mahindra pickup trucks loaded with cattle. Both vehicles were covered with a tarp. During the operation, while pursuing one vehicle, it collided with the other and then crashed into a roadside pole. After the accident, the driver attempting to flee was apprehended by members of the cow‑protecting team.
15‑SEPTEMBER JALANDHAR Jalandhar: Around 3 a.m. late night near the Pathankot bypass, teams of the World Hindu Council and Gaura Raksha Dal allegedly seized two Mahindra pickup trucks loaded with cattle. Both vehicles were covered with tarpaulins. During the operation, while pursuing one vehicle, it collided with the other and then crashed into a roadside pole. After the accident, the driver attempting to flee was apprehended by members of the Gaura Raksha team.
According to Inderjit Bishnu Prasad, a representative of the Gaura Raksha team, they had received information that two pickup trucks were being used to transport cattle. The team then began searching for the vehicles around 2:30 a.m. near the Pathankot bypass.
It was reported that one pickup was stopped and inspected. During this time, the second suspicious pickup sped away. The team gave chase. It is alleged that the driver attempted to escape, but the vehicle went out of control, first colliding with another vehicle and then hitting a pole on the roadside.
After the crash, the driver abandoned the vehicle and tried to run, but members of the Gaura Raksha Dal caught him on the spot. Both pickup trucks were seized and examined.
The Gaura Raksha team claims that the cattle were allegedly kept in extremely cramped conditions inside the vehicles. According to the team, three bulls were recovered from one pickup, while a detailed examination of the second vehicle is ongoing. The team also stated that no valid transport documents or bills were presented at the scene.
The Gaura Raksha team alleged that the cattle were being taken toward the Pathankot and Jammu regions, suggesting possible illegal slaughter and meat supply. However, these allegations are under police investigation.
Police have taken one driver into custody.
After receiving the report, police from the concerned police station and the station in‑charge arrived at the scene. Police seized both pickup trucks and placed one driver in custody for questioning.
According to police officials, the team arrived at the scene after receiving information from the control room. The recovered cattle, vehicle documents, and driver are being interrogated. Police say that the situation of the entire case will become clear only after the investigation is completed, and action will be taken against the accused in accordance with the law based on the facts.
