Andhra Pradesh: Cyclone “Arnab” Causes Heavy Devastation in Coastal Areas of Andhra Pradesh

Cyclone “Arnab” has wreaked severe devastation in the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. Strong winds, heavy rainfall, and towering sea waves have severely disrupted livelihoods in many regions. Roads have been flooded, trees and power poles uprooted, and some houses and old buildings damaged. In light of the situation, authorities have accelerated relief and rescue operations.

**Winds Reached up to 150 km/h**

According to the Meteorological Department, wind speeds during the cyclonic storm were recorded between 125 and 135 km/h, while gusts were estimated to reach up to 150 km/h. On the morning of Wednesday, 28 October, the storm struck the coast of Andhra Pradesh. As a result, heavy rainfall and strong winds continued in many coastal districts.

**Roads Damaged, Power and Traffic Affected**

Due to the storm, reports emerged from several areas including Kakinaada, Konnisima, and West Godavari of uprooted trees, fallen power poles, and waterlogged roads. Debris accumulation on some coastal routes has impeded movement. Sea waves have also exacerbated coastal erosion issues.

Rail and road transport have also been affected. Given the severe weather conditions, many trains were cancelled or rescheduled. Bus services in certain areas were also disrupted. Interruption of power supply is causing inconvenience to residents.
