Delhi NCR Green Crackers 2026: A major relief from the Supreme Court for Delhi‑NCR residents before Diwali.
A major relief from the Supreme Court has emerged for the people of Delhi‑NCR. The apex court has permitted the lighting of green crackers in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on 7 and 8 November within the stipulated times. According to the court’s order, people will be allowed to light crackers only from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. This year Diwali will be celebrated on 8 November. However, this permission is granted for a limited period and under specified conditions. From 9 November 2026, the complete ban on crackers will be reinstated as before.

Delhi NCR Green Crackers 2026: Supreme Court decides the timing for lighting crackers.
The bench comprising Justice M. M. Sundresh and Justice Prasanna B. Varale of the Supreme Court has issued this order regarding the lighting of green crackers in Delhi‑NCR. The bench clarified that no crackers will be allowed outside the prescribed morning and evening slots on 7 and 8 November. According to the order, people can light green crackers only from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., meaning a one‑hour window in the morning and a two‑hour window at night. This decision is viewed as a limited relief considering the Diwali festival. However, the court has made compliance with environmental and public‑safety regulations mandatory.

Restriction within 300 metres of hospitals and old age homes.
While permitting the lighting of crackers, the Supreme Court has imposed special restrictions around sensitive locations. The court’s directions state that crackers will not be allowed within a 300‑metre radius of hospitals, nursing homes, primary health centres, district health centres and old age homes. In addition, crackers cannot be lit in notified Silence Zones. The purpose of this provision is to protect patients admitted in hospitals, the elderly, and people dealing with health issues from the disturbance caused by loud noises and smoke. Maintaining peace around these locations will also be essential during the festival.
