Asian Games 2026 Women’s Squash Team suffer setback in semifinals
India and Hong Kong faced a thrilling semifinal match. In the first encounter, the young player Anahat Singh represented India. The 18‑year‑old Anahat was matched against Hong Kong’s Sin Yu Kwan.
Anahat started the match brilliantly, taking the first two games. Hong Kong’s player then mounted a comeback. In the fourth game, Anahat had a 10‑6 lead and several opportunities to win the match, but she was unable to convert four match points.
The contest then extended to a fifth game. Anahat trailed 7‑9, then equalised at 9‑9. However, in the decisive moments, Sin Yu Kwan maintained relentless pressure and secured the win.
Anahat lost 2‑3. The match scores were 11‑9, 11‑8, 6‑11, 11‑13 and 10‑12.
Tanvi Khandha leads India's comeback
After the first loss, Tanvi Khandha delivered a stellar performance for India. She faced Hong Kong’s Ka Yi Li.
Tanvi lost the first game 4‑11, but then mounted a powerful comeback. In the second game, she applied pressure through long rallies and won 13‑11.
In the third game, Tanvi was briefly down 3‑7, yet she steadily accumulated points to level the score at 9‑9 and then took the game.
The fourth game remained fiercely close. Tanvi secured crucial points under pressure and won 13‑11, taking the match 3‑1. With her victory, India evened the tie at 1‑1 heading into the semifinals.
Josna Chinappa’s defeat in the decisive match
The semifinal outcome hinged on the third and decisive match. India’s seasoned player Josna Chinappa faced Hong Kong’s Ho Je Lok.
From the outset, Josna struggled against her opponent’s rapid pace. She lost the first two games. Hong Kong maintained the lead in the third game as well.
Josna attempted a comeback in the final stages, saving several match points. However, she could not bring the contest to a decisive situation. Josna lost the 21‑minute match 4‑11, 7‑11 and 9‑11.
India secures bronze medal
After the loss in the decisive match, India’s dream of reaching the final was dashed. Hong Kong clinched the semifinal 2‑1.
Nonetheless, reaching the semifinals was sufficient for the Asian Games 2026 Women’s Squash Team to secure a medal. Thus, the Indian women’s squash team captured the bronze.
Anahat Singh, Tanvi Khandha and Josna Chinappa played pivotal roles in the semifinals. Tanvi’s victory enabled India’s comeback, but after Josna’s defeat in the decisive match, the team failed to reach the final.
