3, OCTOBER, JALANDHAR
Ludhiana: Punjab BJP General Secretary Anil Sarin held a press conference today, questioning the Punjab government over cases filed against businessmen protesting against power cuts. He said that the businessmen were protesting against the electricity issue, and during that time cases were filed against them.
Anil Sarin said that businessmen provide the government with substantial revenue as tax, and it is inappropriate to act against them instead of listening to their problems. He raised questions about government policies and said that the demands of the businessmen should be considered.
In fact, there have been protests by businessmen linked to industrial units in Ludhiana over power cuts. In September, businessmen from the dying industry staged a sit-in on Chandigarh Road protesting the power cuts.
Anil Sarin also spoke about Paraghat Singh becoming Congress president
During the press conference, Anil Sarin was also questioned about appointing Paraghat Singh as the new Punjab Congress president. The Congress appointed Paraghat Singh, a legislator from Jalandhar Cantt and former Indian hockey captain, as the state Congress president on 2 October 2026, replacing Amarinder Singh Raja Wading.
In response, Anil Sarin criticized the central leadership of the Congress and claimed that the party still has leadership and internal differences. He also raised questions about the ongoing intra-party disagreements in Punjab Congress.
Response to CJP's protest and SIR
Anil Sarin also gave his response regarding the protest being carried out by CJP. He said that on one hand questions are raised about fake votes, and on the other hand, when the Election Commission conducts the voter list revision process, it is opposed.
He also questioned the Congress's stance on EVMs and said that since the elections have been held using electronic voting machines, Congress has been continuously losing elections; therefore, the party opposes EVMs. This is Anil Sarin's political allegation; it should be viewed as his statement, not as a fact.
Overall, this press conference in Ludhiana primarily raised issues such as cases filed against businessmen, the power crisis, leadership changes in Punjab Congress, and CJP's protest.
