Meanwhile, the attackers fled with the youths' motorcycle. Based on the victim's statement, the police have registered a case against seven suspects and begun an investigation.
The victim, Balraj Singh, son of Bagicha Singh, resident of the village Rame, told the police that about three years ago he had a dispute with Jaswant Singh, son of Ajit Singh, of the village. Later both parties had reached a settlement.
According to Balraj, he was returning from the fields on a tractor on Monday night when Jaswant Singh and his associates surrounded him on the road. The situation calmed down when villagers arrived on the spot. After that, the panchayat had scheduled a time on Wednesday morning to facilitate a settlement between both parties.
On Tuesday afternoon around 12 noon, Balraj was heading to the fields on a motorcycle with his friend Kuldeep Singh. On the village's main road, Jaswant Singh arrived on three motorcycles with six other associates. The incident was reported to the 112 helpline. Shahkot police arrived at the scene, conducted an investigation, and recovered an empty shell.
